Short-Term, Focused Counselling

Short-term counselling offers a structured and time-limited approach to therapy. It can be helpful when you have a specific concern or want a more focused way of working.

This approach combines clarity and containment while still allowing space for reflection and depth.

Who Short-Term Counselling Is For

Short-term counselling may be suitable if you:

• Are experiencing anxiety or stress

• Are dealing with burnout or work-related pressure

• Are facing a life transition or specific relationship difficulty

• Want clarity and direction around a particular issue.

It is often helpful for clients who want to work with intention and structure.

Session Length and Structure

Short-term work typically involves 12–20 weekly sessions. The exact number of sessions is not fixed in advance and is agreed collaboratively during the initial assessment.

As we work, the focus remains clear and contained, and we regularly review how the therapy is progressing.

How Short-Term Work Is Decided

During the initial assessment, we explore what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to focus on. Together, we consider whether a short-term approach feels appropriate or whether a more open-ended way of working would be more helpful.

This decision is made carefully and without pressure.

Is Short-Term Counselling Right for Me?

Short-term counselling is not superficial. It offers depth within a clear structure, allowing you to explore meaningful issues while keeping the work focused.

Some clients start with short-term counselling and later decide to continue with open-ended therapy; others find that a focused piece of work meets their needs.
